My father described himself as a small town city boy. I think of him as a man whose love of the outdoors and natural beauty defined a life of appreciation and preservation. His work in forestry all but guaranteed the safe-keeping and responsible stewardship of the Wild and Scenic River network of Idaho and Western Montana. His work was more important than I ever realized as a kid. More recently I have come to understand that he gave me a way to always find joy in the world. "Look to Nature" is his refrain. It's holding me together and I will always have it because of him. I thought I would fall apart without him in the world, but he's everywhere I look.
